Alarm communication has come a long way.
For years, traditional alarm panels relied on POTS lines to report signals back to the central station. As networks evolved, IP communication became a more common and efficient path. Today, cellular communication has become an increasingly important option—especially for systems that need flexibility, resilience, and dependable reporting.
That is why the recently announced Radionix Flat Rate Cellular Plan is such an important development.
The Shift from POTS to IP and Cellular
With Radionix’s newer B Series and G Series panels, the direction is clear: modern communication methods are the priority.
Unlike legacy systems, these panels do not come standard with a built-in POTS connection. If a site still requires POTS, it must be added through an optional module. Instead, the panels are designed with an onboard Ethernet port, making IP communication a native and convenient option right out of the box.
For customers and integrators who want the added flexibility of wireless communication, Radionix also offers a cellular card that can be installed in one of the panel slots. This allows the system to communicate over cellular networks and take advantage of Radionix’s available data plans—including the new flat rate option.
Radionix currently supports AT&T and Verizon, giving users access to two of the industry’s most recognized carriers.
Understanding the Available Cellular Plan Options
Radionix’s cellular offering is designed to fit a wide range of applications. In addition to the newly introduced flat rate plan, there are also three usage-based plans available:
- Backup Plan – includes 150 KB of data
- Standard Plan – includes 1 MB of data
- Commercial Plan – includes 5 MB of data
These three plans are structured as pooled or shared data plans.
That means if multiple panels are on the same account, unused data from one panel can help offset overage on another panel. In practical terms, if one panel communicates more than expected while another uses less, the data can be balanced across the group. For dealers and organizations managing multiple systems, this creates a more efficient and budget-conscious approach to cellular reporting.
What Makes the New Flat Rate Plan Different?
The new Flat Rate Cellular Plan gives customers another choice—one that is especially attractive for applications where communication demands are higher or less predictable.
Rather than carefully managing data usage across a pooled threshold, the flat rate option is built for installations where the panel may need to communicate more frequently. This can be especially valuable when the system is being used for:
- frequent opening and closing reports
- status updates at shorter intervals
- recurring activity reports
- event-heavy environments
- cellular as the primary communication path
In those types of applications, communication traffic can increase quickly. The flat rate plan helps remove much of the concern around staying within a limited data bucket and gives integrators a simpler option for sites with more active reporting needs.
Choosing the Right Plan for the Application
Each Radionix cellular plan serves a different purpose.
The Backup Plan is ideal when cellular is only being used as a failover path. For example, if the primary Ethernet or POTS connection goes offline, cellular steps in to keep the panel connected to the central station. Because this only happens occasionally in most environments, the data usage is typically low—making a smaller plan a practical fit.
The Standard and Commercial plans are better suited for applications where more routine communication is expected. If the system is sending regular reports, user activity, area openings and closings, or more frequent event notifications, these plans provide additional capacity while still maintaining cost efficiency through pooled usage.
The Flat Rate Plan, however, is the best fit when the goal is to simplify planning and support more consistent or heavier communication demands without the same concern about usage limits.
A Smarter Cellular Option for Today’s Systems
As alarm communication continues to move away from legacy phone lines, cellular is becoming a more important part of system design. Radionix’s expanded lineup of cellular plans gives dealers, integrators, and end users more flexibility to match communication costs to the real needs of each site.
The addition of a flat rate option is a meaningful step forward because it gives customers a straightforward choice for systems that require robust reporting and dependable connectivity.
For anyone deploying modern B Series or G Series panels, Radionix now offers a more complete set of communication options—whether the priority is simple backup, budget-conscious pooled data, or a more flexible flat rate solution.
