Bosch AUTODOME Gen6: CPP13 vs. CPP16 (both running IVA Pro Buildings) — field notes from Steve Pennington & Brad Castillo

Steve Pennington and Brad Castillo recently ran a side-by-side evaluation of two Bosch AUTODOME Gen6 models using the same analytics package (Bosch IVA Pro Buildings) to see what actually changes when you move from CPP13 to CPP16.

Models tested (as discussed):

  • Gen6 CPP13: NDP-7602-Z40

  • Gen6 CPP16: NDP-7802-Z40

They reviewed performance with a real person in-scene (Tom Fontana) and evaluated image quality and analytics behavior from ~25 ft out to ~1,000 ft, including key checkpoints around 150 ft, 500+ ft, and 800 ft.

What they noticed immediately (25–150 ft)

  • CPP16 (NDP-7802-Z40) looked brighter and “punchier” with more impressive color reproduction, especially in greens/browns in the background.

  • CPP13 (NDP-7602-Z40) appeared less bright and a bit less “alive” by comparison.

  • Analytics tracking: In the close range, both cameras consistently classified the subject as a person without issue.

Mid-range behavior (~150 ft and beyond)

  • The CPP13 image started to look more washed out—like it was electronically lifting brightness to keep the scene usable.

  • The CPP16 maintained better contrast, truer blacks (they specifically called out signage/blacks), and more accurate color without “over-brightening.”

Long-range: where the difference became “the” difference (500–1,000 ft)

This is where they drew the clearest line:

  • At extended distances (they reference beyond ~500 ft and out toward ~800 ft), the CPP16 continued to maintain person classification and tracking.

  • The CPP13 lost classification entirely at those longer distances—even though it was still producing a usable image.

  • At ~800 ft, they still considered both images usable, but for a trained eye they felt you’d naturally prefer the CPP16 due to more detail (“crisper”) plus the analytics staying locked in.

Bottom line

If your priority is image “pop” (contrast/color fidelity) and—more importantly—IVA Pro Buildings classification persistence at longer ranges, their test strongly favored the CPP16 (NDP-7802-Z40). The CPP13 (NDP-7602-Z40) can still deliver outstanding video, but in their evaluation it didn’t hold analytics classification nearly as well once distances got serious.

CPP what?!

In the video above, Steve and Brad mentioned "CPP" repeatedly. Below, Rick Bennett leans on Tom Fontana and Brad Castillo for an explanation of the acronym that is in virtually every meeting they attend...
