In a recent evaluation, MidChes team members put Bosch / KEENFINITY Group’s newer AUTODOME Gen6 CPP16 PTZ camera to the test to show how it performs when paired with Intelligent Video Analytics. The camera they evaluated was the CPP16 Gen6 AUTODOME model NDP 7802-Z40. A key difference we demonstrated in the video: IVA Pro Appearance.
A quick reminder on IVA Pro licensing
Steve and Brad emphasized an important planning point for customers: IVA Pro capabilities can vary by product, and in some cases IVA Pro functions are included as a standard feature, while in other cases they are licensed add-ons. For this evaluation, they enabled the licensable IVA Pro Appearance package on the camera in order to demonstrate the features shown.
What IVA Pro Appearance adds
Their focus was IVA Pro Appearance, which allows the system to look for “attributes” associated with a person or object in the detection area. In their explanation, attributes can include things like a backpack, a hat, and certain clothing related characteristics. They also noted that as the camera platform and firmware mature, the available attributes for search and detection can expand.
They highlighted two practical ways this can help operators:
-
Live detection: The camera can detect a person matching the attribute rule in real time.
-
Retroactive (Forensic) search: Forensic search has been used in BVMS, operators can look back through recorded video for the attribute of interest.
The real advantage: attribute based auto tracking on a PTZ
Steve and Brad pointed out that fixed cameras can flag an appearance based event, but the PTZ advantage is what happens next. With the AUTODOME Gen6 CPP16, the camera can:
-
Detect the attribute match (in the demo, a person with a backpack)
-
Zoom in automatically
-
Track the correct individual through the scene for better identification, especially at longer distances
What happened in their demo
To prove the camera would not get confused, they used two subjects, Caleb and Matt:
-
A detection zone and rule were set up to trigger on a person with a backpack
-
Caleb wore a backpack, Matt did not
-
The camera classified both as people
-
When Caleb entered the detection area, the rule triggered and the camera immediately zoomed in on Caleb once it detected the backpack and continued tracking him
-
Matt remained in the scene at times without triggering the rule because he did not have a backpack
-
After Caleb left the field of view for a pre-determined time, the camera returned to its staged preset position automatically
-
They emphasized that no one was manually controlling the PTZ during this process. The camera handled detection, tracking, and returning to preset on its own
Key takeaway
The evaluation showed how combining a CPP16 AUTODOME Gen6 PTZ with IVA Pro Appearance can turn a PTZ into an active participant in monitoring, not just a camera waiting for an operator to drive it. The result, as they presented it, is faster attention on the right person and clearer detail through automatic zoom and tracking, while still maintaining the camera’s ability to return to its normal coverage position.
