E-Learning: are you taking advantage of it?

Mark Van Valkenburg December 6, 2022 14:26 PM

Whether you are a security practitioner or security dealer, training is critical.

More resources are coming directly to your laptop instead of you having to travel. Rest assured though, there are still plenty of classroom based sessions for those so inclined for highly complex topics that require intensive, hands-on experience with security hardware and software. New online learning resources come in many flavors such as formal online academy settings as well as tutorial videos on YouTube or manufacturer websites.

So ask yourself these key questions:

  • Do I need training for myself, new installation technicians, or system operators?
  • Do I need to have established technicians or operators updated on new products?
  • Can I afford not to take advantage of the cost savings and the ability to learn at my own pace and on my own schedule?

Having a technical staff that is up to date and proficient will reduce labor costs and satisfy clients. Nothing impresses security end users more than a knowledgeable technician. A technician that can install, maintain, and repair a system with ease and in a timely manner is a top goal for installing contractors. Take advantage of the ease of accessibility. It will be time well spent and provide your firm with measureable ROI.

Bosch Security Systems, Comnet, and other premier manufacturers are leveraging self-driven learning.

Sometimes you may have more basic technology questions. Chesapeake & Midlantic Marketing produce technical explainer videos like this on our YouTube channel

In other cases, you may have very specific equipment to install.  Here is an example of an installation tutorial for a specific solution:

At the Bosch online Training Academy, technicians register and assign their own e-learning courses or the courses can be assigned by their manager. Technicians and or managers can print course completion certificates and keep a record of completed course work. There are provisions for managers to assign lessons, stay updated on the progress of those assigned lessons, and keep records of technical training progress. Classes available range from video system programming to intrusion detection system service.
