Commend, a leader in high-performance voice intercom systems, introduced a game-changing solution at ISC West 2025 set to redefine communication in security and service environments: Ivy Live Translate. This real-time, human-to-human voice translation system was demonstrated live by Tony Babicz of Commend Americas for Brad Castillo — and the results were nothing short of remarkable.
Breaking the Language Barrier
“Intercom’s no longer just about pushing a button and letting someone in the door,” explained Babicz. “We can use it for all different purposes now.” This shift in purpose inspired Commend’s development of Ivy, their conversational AI launched several years ago. From that innovation came the realization that true real-time translation was a missing link in modern security and communications systems.
“We realized a lot of people need translation services. We need to be able to speak to somebody in a different language, and not just through AI, but human to human, in real time,” said Babicz. The result is Ivy Live Translate — a tool that seamlessly bridges the gap between languages during intercom interactions.
Real-Time Demo — Real-World Potential
During the live demo at ISC West, Babicz showed how Ivy Live Translate works through a multilingual touchscreen interface. A user selects their preferred language, and the system automatically translates their speech into English for the operator — and vice versa.
The conversation flowed effortlessly:
-
User (in Spanish): “Where is the bathroom?”
-
Operator (in English): “Down your hall and to the right.”
Even more impressively, the system worked through a 5G connection in the booth, with no hardwired infrastructure. “It goes up to the cloud, takes speech to text, translates it, and comes back to speech on the other device — and it happens instantly,” said Babicz.
Castillo was quick to respond: “That is impressive. That is very, very quick.” He also highlighted the advantage of the solution staying human-centered: “People aren’t really excited about just talking to an AI bot… you're still getting that quick human response regardless of what language is coming in.”
More Than Security
While the security sector is a natural fit — particularly for SOC operators who face high-stakes decisions — the use cases for Ivy Live Translate go far beyond. “We’re looking at airports, transportation hubs, subway systems — anywhere where you’re going to find a large population of people speaking different languages,” said Babicz.
This is particularly impactful in scenarios where relying on a third-party translator could delay response time or complicate operations. “You guys have solved that with this technology,” said Castillo.
The Future of Communication
With Ivy Live Translate, Commend isn’t just innovating — they’re redefining the future of human interaction in high-security and high-volume environments. By eliminating language as a barrier to service, safety, and support, the solution sets a new standard for accessibility, responsiveness, and operational efficiency.
“This is going to be crucial in the security market,” concluded Babicz, “but we’re also just scratching the surface of what’s possible.”
