AMS Card and Reader Format Options - Wiegand and OSDP

Bosch offers two options when it comes to access control system protocols for readers and credentials within the Access Management System (AMS) ecosystem: OSDP and Wiegand. Below, Ari Erenthal and Rick Bennett explain the Wiegand and OSDP reader options for Bosch AMS >>

OSDP

LECTUS secure card readers - OSDPThe LECTUS Secure series of OSDP readers from Bosch are available in four form factors:

  • The ARD-SER40-RO is a wall mounted reader that can be mounted to a standard single gang work box.
  • The ARD-SERK40-RO is a wall mounted reader with an integrated keypad for dual authentication.
  • The ARD-SER15-RO is a mullion sized reader.
  • The ARD-SER10-W is a miniature mullion sized reader.

A mullion is the dividing bar on a glass door. Applications with lots of glass offer few good places to mount a card reader, so the best solution is often to fish a wire down the frame itself and mount a thin, narrow reader right to the frame itself.

All Bosch credential readers are designed for indoor applications, but can be used outdoors with an optional gasket which is sold separately.

Bosch's LECTUS series are compatible with AMS 3, the latest access control solution from Bosch. For secure applications, LECTUS readers can support encryption between card and reader by using Bosch coded DESFire EV1 credentials, and encryption between reader and controller using the OSDP v2 Secure Channel Protocol. The reader also supports standard iCLASS, MIFARE, and MIFARE DESFire EV1.

Wiegand

LECTUS secure card readers - WiegandThe LECTUS series of Wiegand readers from Bosch are available in three form factors:

  • The ARD-SER40-WI is a wall mounted reader that can be mounted to a standard single gang work box.
  • The ARD-SERK40-W1 is a wall mounted reader with an integrated keypad for dual authentication.

All Bosch credential readers are designed for indoor applications, but can be used outdoors with an optional gasket, sold separately.

Bosch's LECTUS series are compatible with Bosch access control solutions including AMS and Bosch intrusion panels with access control interfaces. LECTUS series readers are compatible with multiple credential formats, including iCLASS and MIFARE.
