AMG Systems has just unveiled a game-changing cybersecurity device designed to simplify and secure Ethernet connections across any SFP-enabled device. The new product, AMG Secure-Net™ SFP, made its debut at ISC West during a conversation between AMG’s Tom Exley and Tom Fontana.
AMG Secure-Net™ SFP is a carrier module that provides hardware-level encryption at full gigabit speed—without compromising bandwidth, compatibility, or distance.
"This is the first kind of device that we have on the market that can do this kind of thing," Exley shared. "Traditionally, you'd need a router—and it also typically has an overhead on the traffic. The benefit of this is it's giving you full line rate encryption."
A Simple but Powerful Concept
The innovation behind Secure-Net™ SFP lies in its simplicity. The device slides into any standard SFP port—whether on an AMG switch, a third-party media converter, or any other networking hardware. Once installed, Secure-Net™ SFP encrypts all traffic that passes through, ensuring secure point-to-point data transmission.
“We can install this device inside any SFP port on any device... and then this device is actually going to encrypt all of the traffic that’s passing through the SFP,” Exley explained. “That’s hardware-level encryption—full one gigabit line rate.”
Secure-Net™ SFP encrypts only the payload, which means traffic can still be routed and switched through intermediate networks while remaining fully protected. The encryption standard is 128-bit, and each transmitter is paired with a receiver to secure both ends of the data path.
Flexible, Fast, and Field-Ready
Unlike traditional encryption solutions that often slow down performance, Secure-Net™ SFP maintains full-speed throughput and operates over distances up to 120 kilometers, depending on the SFP used.
“You're not reducing any bandwidth or any speeds or distances. That's the benefit,” Fontana remarked, impressed by the capability.
Another standout feature? No configuration is needed. Devices can be pre-configured and simply plugged in for immediate operation, making Secure-Net™ SFP ideal for both new installations and retrofits in critical infrastructure, healthcare, education, or industrial environments.
“There's no configuration...we can pre-configure them, set them up and plug them in and off you go,” said Exley.
Shipping
Secure-Net™ SFP is slated to begin shipping at the end of April 2025, marking an exciting step forward for cybersecurity-conscious organizations looking for a flexible and effective encryption solution.
As cybersecurity challenges continue to evolve, AMG Systems' Secure-Net™ SFP offers integrators and end users a streamlined, plug-and-play path to encrypted networking—without the complexity or cost of traditional solutions.
