Monitor your pet door....or your business...by email using smart alarm technology

Cats. Not the subject matter I thought I'd be writing about...ever. Well, here I am, realizing that those pet lovers out there might get a kick out of this. Especially if they are worried about what else might be entering their house through that convenient pet door.

Yesterday, while at a business meeting in Lancaster, PA, I was introduced to a colleague from overseas.  He told me about his "super smart" alarm email reporting system that he set up to monitor the pet door at his house. He has the setup so exact that he is notified by email if a non-resident cat, or other furry friend, is entering his house via the pet door....even when he's across the globe in the US!

By using video analytics in the camera that monitors his front door, his security system knows if the cat coming in the house is the correct size and color. If not, he gets an alert on his phone with a picture of the "intruder" for further investigation of the break-in.

Then there's the business owners, managers, and staff just like you. You might be worried about more than cats getting into the workplace after hours.

I got to thinking about how this could be used to make intrusion alarm systems smarter by combining readily available security technology.

As luck would have it, another colleague sent me a "Tips and Benefits" document that speaks to using relatively inexpensive cameras with video analytics onboard in conjunction with an intrusion alarm panel to get very specific about intrusion detection before or while it is occurring.

Keep the unwanted out. Get notified when a breach occurs with an email and a photo snapshot.
