Migration to IP-based Intercom & Public Address

Our team headed to facility that has hundreds of buildings with legacy intercom and public address systems currently in place to discuss options for implementing new IP-based solutions.

Like many organizations, businesses, and agencies, this complex is methodically moving toward modern IP-based voice communication solutions.

Commend's Bill Polakowski took a few minutes to discuss voice communication solutions with Steve Pennington that could be implemented at similar facilities to leverage existing infrastructure and introduce new technologies:

  • utilizing SIP protocol to use existing VoIP phones as part of the overall intercom and public address solution
  • deploying software on virtual servers for simplified IT department management
  • using legacy analog devices in conjunction with new IP-based intercom devices
  • integration to 3rd party access control and video surveillance systems
  • intelligent volume control for noisy environments
  • IP loudspeakers for public address
  • 16kHz crystal-clear audio in any environment at any distance
  • backwards compatibility with legacy Commend devices

To better understand the Commend difference, our team visited Brad Anderson and his team at Commend's US headquarters in Mahwah, New Jersey. We left with a much deeper understanding of their fundamental mission to provide a safe environment for staff and visitors at facilities around the world.
