IP Encoding versus IP Cameras: Where is the Encoding Done?

Depending on security project requirements, the migration to or adoption of IP video security surveillance can bring many challenges.  

If there are existing analog cameras, then an IP encoder can be used to convert the analong camera to an IP stream.  Likewise many specialty camera systems require IP encoders in order to convert the video stream to IP.

For easiest implementation, most projects utilize IP cameras. In an IP camera, the encoding is performed inside of the camera itself.  This also allows the owner to deploy higher resolution cameras such as 1080p or 4K UHD.
