Bosch unveiled its newest edge-based video analytics innovations—IVA Pro LPR (License Plate Recognition) and IVA Pro Make + Model—positioned to streamline vehicle identification for modern security operations. These tools are fully embedded within compatible Bosch cameras and integrated seamlessly into the Bosch Video Management System (BVMS), enabling real-time detection and powerful forensic search without the need for third-party software.
Kevin Kosch explained, “One of the great things with the LPR solution that we have with Bosch is it’s actually all being done inside the camera itself. We don’t have to rely on any third party to OCR it to give you the information.”
The setup begins in Bosch’s Configuration Manager, where users define camera zones, traffic direction, and capture parameters. The system supports up to two traffic lanes per camera and can detect vehicles from the U.S., Europe, Mexico, and India-Pacific regions. As vehicles pass through the detection zones, the system captures not just the plate number—but also the vehicle’s country, region, direction, classification, make, model, and color.
Within BVMS, operators can receive instantaneous alarms when a vehicle crosses a detection line. Though the demonstration momentarily encountered a hiccup with live alerts, Kevin emphasized, “Once they get through the detection line, we’re going to be able to detect the license plate. It doesn’t have to be on the front or the back—it just depends on how you have it set up.”
The platform allows for flexible configuration and immediate visual confirmation, supporting dynamic security environments like gated perimeters, enterprise campuses, or parking lots. For many, that level of responsiveness and clarity is essential in daily operations or during incident investigations.
The real standout is how Bosch makes forensic review intuitive. “Forensically, we have a couple different ways that we can get into it,” Kevin said. “You can search by time, plate number, vehicle brand, or even license plate state. Then narrow it down further and export that data if needed.”
Users can apply text-based metadata filters to pinpoint events within defined timeframes—choosing criteria such as “Toyota vehicles” or “New York plates.” These search results are instantly displayed in a timeline view, or exported to CSV files for further offline analysis.
“This is all done at the Edge. It just requires a license with a compatible camera type platform, and we’re feeding that metadata into BVMS in this case, which is all searchable. There’s not a BVMS license to do this—you’re just using forensic search that’s built in.”
Kevin confirmed the long-term value, highlighting that these licenses are perpetual, not subscription-based: “Whether it be an IVA Pro license, it’s a perpetual license, so there’s no recurring cost to the license on the camera.”
Bosch’s IVA Pro LPR and Make + Model analytics are a leap forward for site security and traffic monitoring. By bringing license plate recognition and vehicle classification to the edge—right inside the camera—Bosch removes infrastructure complexity and lowers the total cost of ownership for its users.
This solution is ideal for:
Security at corporate campuses, data centers, and healthcare facilities
Gate access control at private communities and commercial lots
Situational awareness for law enforcement or transportation hubs
Whether you're capturing plates from the front, back, or both, Bosch offers a flexible and powerful analytics suite that helps security teams make faster, more accurate decisions with zero recurring fees.
