Biometrics, Security, & Harsh Weather?

Corporations and other entities can rest assured that their security system users are becoming more comfortable with biometric access control technology. Not only is it on television and in movies everyday, it's also quickly becoming a part of our daily reality. Even the latest iPhone has on board fingerprint recognition.

A major hang-up of past was biometric reader accuracy and reliability. These two sticking points have improved significantly, and the ruggedness of the hardware devices is improving as well.

Take for instance the ZKAccess TF1600 mounted to a back-box (shown right) covered in ice and water in New Jersey.  This is one example of the new resilience expectations and capabilities of door control hardware.

Today, security is being pushed further to the edge of the property. Now, with rugged devices, that protection line is further from the protected assets and personnel.

It's not just access control devices that are now capable of more rugged environmental conditions.  It's also the cameras, the voice communication station, the perimeter detection system, and even the network switches that connect most of these devices together across the IT network.

Manufacturers like ZKAccess are pushing the limits of their biometric reader hardware. Look to manufacturers such as Bosch Security Systems, Commend Intercom, Comnet Communication Networks, and Protech USA to solve the problems of harsh environment deployment.

Even in mild weather areas like Maryland, your equipment must withstand snow, sleet, ice, and driving rain. Don't be caught with a failed security solution. The weather forecast below is for Maryland in January 2015. Look at the forecast of lows in the single digits!

Plan ahead. Think rugged.
