30ips Frame Rate & 5 Mega Pixel: Only part of the story

Written by Matt Golueke | Sep 24, 2014 1:19:00 PM

A few days ago our team produced two demonstration video clips for a federal government agency that desired to see the difference between various IP camera resolutions from 4CIF up to 5 mega pixel.

They also wanted to see four different frame rate comparisons: 7.5 images per second through 30 images per second.

In order to satisfy this request we made two separate video presentations to help keep the focus on the two separate comparison requests.

We captured the videos, made some DVD copies to hand out to the client, and promoted the comparisons on our digital marketing channels online.

Mission accomplished?  Well, not so fast…

Our friend, Brad, sends us a note the next day. “Hey, it looks like you have a higher resolution camera in the bottom right of the frame rate comparison video. Can you confirm this is a multi-MP camera at 30ips frame rate (like the Bosch 5MP)? The industry has long had to sacrifice one for the other and it's important we communicate that trade-off is not necessary.”

We weren't sure exactly what he meant. We had captured exactly what was asked of us.

He then reminded us that many IP security cameras can provide 30 images per second.

He reminded us that many IP security cameras can provide 5 mega pixel resolution.

He then said, “I only know of one camera that can do both 30ips frame rate and 5 mega pixel resolution at the same time. That’s what your videos show, but you don’t point out."

So, take a look at this video clip that brings frame rate, resolution, and an often over looked critical criteria, low light capability, together for one comprehensive solution.

Only one manufacturer can meet all of the critical performance criteria in one IP security camera.
