Overpaying for Facial Recognition Biometric Technology?

It's been an expensive, risky, "nice to have" technology for a long time.  Times have changed.

A St. Louis parochial high school paid $7,500 for a facial recognition system to identify specific categories of people entering the facility.

But not everyone needs this degree of protection based on cross-referencing a law enforcement database.

ZKAccess, long-time provider of time and attendance biometric devices, has launched the Biocam 300 long-range facial recognition camera at a MSRP price of just $1,500 to allow/deny entry based on prior entry into a facility's access control system database.

The new frontier for biometric technology is now a reality: long range facial recognition for access control at an AFFORDABLE price.

BIOCAM300Challenges: historically there was fear about capturing and storing biometric information. The second challenge was having to slow down at a door to present credentials, or worse, interact with an unreliable device you had to touch or put your face close to.

We're not talking about putting your face close to a device any longer. ZKAccess is talking about "long range" facial recognition at distances out to ~12 feet. At this range, there's now enough time for the access control system and the facial recognition device to determine identity and allow or deny access to a door with plenty of time to allow a person to maintain normal walking speed and enter a secure area.

ZKAccess claims to be the first to market with this long-range facial recognition reader. Here's a short video about their new BioCam 300.
